My receiver was resetting when woke up this morning. and it is stuck on the startup complete page. i never reset anything. why is this happening?????
Yes...at least in the Midwest, the West Coast got theirs earlier.HolyBuckeye said:was there a download last night?
If for some reason you aren't getting a good signal, the download might not finish. Once you start fresh from either a reset or pullling the power plug (If you use pull the power plug, let it sit 30 sec before plugging back in), let it try to get the download...that is where you should wait half an hour for it to finish.HolyBuckeye said:i am on the east coast- charlotte, nc. i tried a reset nd it was stuck on the same page, but i didnt wait 30 min. so i unplugged all cables and redid. i will try that and wait and then do the red reset. this receiver is such a friggin pain!
Didn't work doesn't give us much to work with. What is it doing? Is it trying to download the new software?HolyBuckeye said:unpluggin it didnt work. now trying red reset button. can this stupid thing be returned? this is a joke. everyday it is something else.
Now, be patient. Have you actually seen it say it's downloading the new firmware? In any case, wait and wait ...I'd busy myself with something and come back in about 45 mins.HolyBuckeye said:right now it is on this page:
startup complete!
Preparing to acquire satellite info...
This will take a few minutes
on the receiver itself the blue light is going in a circle.

If still no go, do a full format and start over (it could be that it's having trouble writing data to the hard disk and a full format could correct that.
Read these instructions BEFORE doing them ...there is a point you have to press and hold for a long time, and if you don't do it, you have to start over!HolyBuckeye said:i have not seen the downloading firmware.
waiiiiiiting.....
i dont think i should do this until i reeeeeally need to, you know. plus i have a dtv tech coming out today. it was for another issue that is resolved. but now i have new issues. i will try and get it working by then. any more troubleshooting tips?hasan said:Read these instructions BEFORE doing them ...there is a point you have to press and hold for a long time, and if you don't do it, you have to start over!
This will make the unit virgin, as if never installed. You will have to do a complete setup of EVERYTHING as if the unit just came out of the box. If you're not comfortable with this level of troubleshooting, don't do it. This is a LAST RESORT technique.
This info is from the D* Tech Tips site
Instructions for doing a FULL FORMAT (you lose all settings and recordings). This will attempt to clean and prepare your hard drive:
1. Press the red reset button
2. You wll see the "Hello Welcome to DIRECTV" screen.
3. Then you will see the "Almost There" screen.
4. When you see the "Almost There" screen, on the HR20 front panel, PRESS and HOLD DOWN (at the same time) the RECORD button and THE DOWN ARROW button, until you see the "Hello Welcome to DIRECTV" screen (Note: the box will reboot during this time, this is normal).
5. DO NOT unplug/reset or interrupt power at this time! The estimated wait time until you see the "Hello Welcome" screen after pressing and holdingdown the Record & Down Arrow buttons could take UP TO TWO MINUTES. Average time is 1 minute.
6. At this point the box has rebooted and the drive has been reformatted.
7. Then you should see the 1st guided setup scree, the language selection screen, in about 5 to 6 minutes.
8. Continue installing as normal
Hope this helps.
Flip your sat signal lines.andy A said:In the same boat here also N.C. Fell asleep approx 2 am everything was working fine. Woke up box was locked, did red button reset and box gets as far as downloading update 0% and just stays there. Box eventually will shutdown then upon restarting it states could not acquire download, then tries to start the download again. Tried unplugging also, same effect. Stuck in a loop.

Done, sat lines flipped and B-Bands removed, red button reset and still hung at the downloading screen 0%. Box eventually shuts down. Turn power back on, screen states unable to download update do a red button reset.Earl Bonovich said:Flip your sat signal lines.
And if you have the B-Band converter (the add-on boxes for the SAT signal), remove them.
what is the bband converter?Earl Bonovich said:Flip your sat signal lines.
