WTAE spits on football fans again

Contract or no contract, who is going to want to watch Rutgers-Cincinnati when Texas-OU is on at the same time?

Viewers getting WTAE don't have that option. They're showing the Rutgers-Cincinnati game. The Red River Shootout may be on an OTA subchannel, but I don't have a 200' tower antenna to try to get the signal from 70 miles away. Clarksburg's ABC subchannel isn't even broadcasting at 10Kw, so that's not an option either.

WTAE has done this for years, either showing exactly the *wrong* game, in spite of viewers preferences, or preempting major events entirely for local fundraisers.

Agree. When the schedule came out last week, the first thing I did was check to be sure there would be no conflict w/ a local team playing. It never occurred to be that OK-Texas would be preempted by a lackluster non-local game.

It times like this I wish D* would "accidentally" let the national feed through.

Have you checked the DNS channels? There are alot of times on Saturdays one of them will be on. Sounds like you guys need an outdoor antenna to get the subchannels that you need.
It's the Red River Rivalry

I did check. (No luck.) As for the outdoor antenna, the subchannels aren't in HD and when it comes to sports programming I am HD bias. Second, WTAE's isn't known for the best OTA signal strength and an engineer who works for them has basically said on the AVSforum that most people get their station through cable or satellite so they don't see the point in improving it for OTA watchers.

It's not a huge deal for me. More annoying than anything, especially since ESPN360 isn't loading for me today.

Take this up with WTAE. This has nothing to do with DirecTV at all.

See my original post. The antenna websites give me data suggesting I'd need a 200-400 foot tower to receive the Pittsburgh OTA stations. WBOY is barely broadcasting a digital signal at all, so that's also out.

Just checked the NY ABC channels... 721s all. :nono:

He never said it had anything to do with D*. He was merely getting something off his chest. Yes, technically, it was off topic for this forum, but I don't see the harm in it.

WTAE is the local station carried by DirecTV in the Pittsburgh DMA. There are no options provided to Pittsburgh viewers except pay for a game the rest of the country is getting for free, so it sure is a DirecTV issue.

And right after I defended you too.
This is a def reason why thry have the ESPNA stations.. They should have been used here.

It wasn't an ESPN/ABC conflict. It was a local contract issue. But speaking of which, now that my ESPN is turned off and ESPNA has been turned on, when can we get the ESPNAs in HD. D* turns off the HD PPVs for Sunday Ticket; they could do the same for this.

(I realize this could be entirely an ESPN issue, but I felt like venting. I don't care about Notre Dame anyway.)

And why is this a DirecTV issue? DirecTV simply carries your local station. They don't control what that local station shows in terms of programming. Complain to WTAE who are the ones not showing you a game you want. In fact DirecTV offers you an option to actually watch the game you want, at a price of course. If you don't want to pay it that's your choice.

I understand the frustration, but that's a rather silly argument.

Silly or not, why should I pay $21.95 or whatever for a game that the guy in the next zip code is getting for nothing beyond his regular subscription fee? The folks at WTAE should've known that no one would be interested in two bottom of the standings Big East teams. They could have moved *that* game to the subchannel, and given us the game we wanted.

They did this last year when WVU and Rutgers played while both were highly ranked. Didn't matter that WVU was in the Pittsburgh market. DirecTV viewers of WTAE got a crap Pitt and whoever they were facing.
Most of you guys are wishing you could've watched OU-Texas. I, on the other hand, almost wish I hadn't been able to. It will take a few days for me to get over this sick feeling I have in the pit of my stomach.

Here's hoping one loss won't keep my Sooners out of contention for the BCS title game.
Since there's no disclaimer in the title and nothing else about the game, you should probably put your comments in spoiler tags scrybigtv.

That being said.

Hook 'Em Horns
Go ahead and have your fun, spartanstew. You guys earned it today. But remember...it's a long season.

Do you know how far this argument can go? That's why the sports packages are called OUT OF MARKET sports packages. It is for games NOT SEEN in your market. Every game is on somewhere for the fee of their basic service, but if you want others you have to pay for it. As others have said, this is NOT a Directv problem. Now, if you subbed to ESPN Gameplan and the game was blacked out for whatever reason and you were unable to see it, then you would have a gripe with both the local affiliate and Directv. But just because you don't feel you have to pay $21.95 to see some game everyone else in the country saw except you is flimsy at best.

How about last year when the Texans broadcasting area and the Browns broadcasting area didn't see the Indy/NE game? Should they gripe it wasn't available to them also? No! There was something else on in it's place. Is that Directv's fault? No. They offer an OUT OF MARKET sports package people in those areas could sub to in order to see the game.
