I used to show movies on the mess deck for the crew. The officers watched the same movies in the wardroom. Occasionally we would splice such short scenes as you saw into the officers' movies. Think something similar might be happening on a broader scale? Never got caught, by the way.

Something in the compression equipment used before the stream is sent up to the satellite probably. A lot of stuff is compressed and combined into a single transponder.

Anything at the source should have more widespread reporting. The key would to have at least two people see it at the same time and preferably others know that they were watching at that moment and not see it. Then it could be tracked back to the common point of error.

If it was an error at the DIRECTV uplink then a lot of DIRECTV customers should have noticed - but not customers of other providers. If it was an error at DIRECTV's source then DISH subscribers and any east coast cable companies carrying the same source feed would see the glitch. With only one person reporting the glitch I'd start looking at what else is on the transponder used to receive the desired channel. Is there an "X rated" channel sharing a transponder with Showtime or TMC? (Either that or the glitch happened at a time where not many people are watching.)

I have an HR24 and I record shows like NCIS NO. Last night when I was watching the recording from the night before a scene of about 3 or 4 seconds popped up in the middle of an active ( non commercial ) time and it was a football game. I do not ever remember getting anything like this.
