XM Radio - Old School Station?

1921 Views 18 Replies 13 Participants Last post by  YKW06
I remember one time I was traveling, and rented a car with Sirius Satellite Radio, and they had an Old School station which I LOVED!!! I was wondering if XM had something similar to this.

Not OLDIES btw, but Old School... :)

Soul Street and The Groove are good options...
hmmm Not what I was looking for.... :(

Any other suggestions?
List a few songs that you would consider "old school"....
Well admittedly, I haven't been to a club in a few years, but I would expect like something you would hear on a rap radio station playing a old school jam, or perhaps songs at a club

Here are some songs I can think of:

Rob Base - It takes two
Beastie Boys - Paul Revere
C&C Music Factory - Everybody Dance Now
House of Pain - Jump Around
Tone Loc - Funky Cold Medina
2 Live Crew songs
Run DMC songs

Those are some examples of both.

k.. that's what I thought you meant... just making sure...

there really isn't a dedicated old school station... your best bet is probably 90's on 9... but you may also hear a few of those scattered about on 21 (kiss), 22 (mix), or 25 (the blend) as well...
That makes me sad... :(

Well maybe with the Sirius / XM merger, I will eventually get it. That is, if it even still exists on Sirius, since it has been a few years since I rented that car. :)

It does still exist on Sirius on channel 43 (Backspin).
65 the rhyme is your best option. Can't remember what Direcrtv station number it is.
Backspin 43 with Kurtis Blow, Dana Dane, Lady B, The Awesome 2, and Kool DJ Red Alert as the DJs, it's high up on my presets. Did I mention I was a child of the 80's?

Those songs are "old school"?!??!?! :)
Soul Street (60)is classic R&B, The Groove (64) is old skool R&B, and the Rhyme (65-XL) is old skool hip hop
I'd consider most of those to be old school hip hop.

I've heard these 2 songs on the 80's channel.

:)
Rob Base - Not played on any XM channel available on D* (on the playlists at XM21 and XM24, but both are Clear Channel stations to which XM has no redistribution rights)

Beastie Boys - They're everywhere on XM. Limiting a search to just "Paul Revere", I show the cut on recent playlists for The Rhyme (845), Raw (846) and 80s on 8 (805).

C&C Music Factory - Heard fairly regularly (but pretty much exclusively) on 90s on 9 (806).

House of Pain - Staple at Lucy (838), The Rhyme (845) and 90s on 9 (806).

Tone Loc - The Rhyme (845) and 80s on 8 (805).

2 Live Crew - Strictly The Rhyme (845).

Run DMC - Shockingly, aside from their holiday songs, it's been nearly a year since a regular XM station other than 80s on 8 (805) laid down a DMC track.

Rob Base gets played a fair amount on the 80s on 8 channel, although it's pretty much just "Joy and Pain" and "It Takes Two". I heard him just the other day.

I like the Rhyme, but only when it plays the older East Coast rap. Don't much care for the West Coast/gangsta movement. There used to be an Old School channel on the old MusicChoice on D*, but even that was only part time. That station was nearly perfect, at least for my tastes.

And, YKW06 is absolutely right, I rarely hear any RunDMC, and that's a crying shame. If it weren't for Run, there would be nobody else...

Yeah... I had searched for Rob Base as a solo rather than "Rob Base & D.j. EZ". Amend that to The Rhyme (845), 80s on 8 (805) and The Groove (844), with occasional play on BPM (859).
