They actually dropped the price of 4K by $10.00 so the people that have the 4K package end up with a $2.00 price decrease.

Perhaps to compensate for purchase of NFL Sunday Ticket as well 😊 (other than the obvious inflation tv costs)

For me, it's still a bargain compared to DirecTV - $73 a month compared to $171 I would be paying for DirecTV.

Obviously I don't know your situation, but for two years, depending on what package you have and how many receivers you need, it COULD work out cheaper to head back to satellite with the price increase and the new deal. Theoretically, if you got one receiver, and use the app for the rest of your TVs, it could be around the same or similar. I have two less receivers now that the app works for Satellite on those TVs I don't watch as much, and obviously a backup for rain fade as well.

I'll stay where I'm at with YTTV. No contracts, no install of intrusive wires I have to hide and no mounting a satellite on my property. Multiview on the way to watch multiple games on the same screen at once, NFL Sunday Ticket will be fully integrated within my guide.

The cost was a reason I left DIRECTV, but it's not the reason I'm staying with streaming. It's $8 a month. I'll skip one trip a month to my favorite fast food establishment to make up for the difference.

YTTV was due for a price hike. The fact that they waited until the hike needed to be greater than 12% suggests that they were overdue.

vMVPDs are probably still not at the point that they need to be in terms of revenue. As for how much sports costs, we have only to look at the price progression that FuboTV has made.

Even with a $60/month discount on my DirecTV service when I canceled in January, I was still paying $103/month for the Choice package with 2 receivers and the $5 Movies Extra add-on. With the $8 increase for DirecTV that went into effect after I canceled and the $8 increase in YTTV, my bill would still be $38 a month higher for DirecTV. And the discount would have expired soon. The DirecTV equipment alone was costing me $39/month.

I'll stay where I am at with Dish. Youtoob is garbage. Too many rabbit holes to fall down.
Great contribution to the thread. Thanks for the trolling. Welcome to the streaming forum.

I switched because of Sunday Ticket. The lower cost of YTTV is just a nice bonus. And at $73 a month, it still seems like a bargain.

DIRECTV also did away with the second year price hike, making it even more appealing than Dish and other alternstives
Dish now says that their initial pricing is good for the first three years, starting at $80/mo for their America's Top 120 package with a single Hopper Duo DVR. DirecTV Satellite starts at the same $80/mo for their Entertainment package with a single Genie DVR but that price is just for the first two years, then goes up. And both require an initial 2-yr contract.

Both are still more expensive than YTTV, especially if you want to view on additional TVs, requiring you to pay $7 or more per month for additional boxes from Dish or DTV.

Unless you don't need your locals (either because you get them via OTA or you just don't care about them), YTTV at $73 and Hulu Live at $70 (which includes the full Disney Bundle with ads) are going to be the cheapest options available for cable channel packages. Only exception I can think of that includes locals plus national cable channels and might be cheaper are the skinny packages that Charter offers in some places, like their Choice package where you get locals and your choice of 15 cable channels.

Now, if you don't need your locals, then you can spend less by going with Sling if you still need cable sports and/or news channels. If you don't need those, then you can spend even less by going with Philo or Frndly TV.

The box fees are the biggest saving, normally I have two that are used everyday, Living Room and the outdoor theater where I watch regular TV in the mornings ( usually news) while on the Life Cycle.

But then I have areas with infrequent use, my bedroom, game room and dining room.

Then 5 other bedrooms that are never used unless I have guests, which I did the last holidays, had a full house over Thanksgiving and this year will be the same, since I am in Florida, everyone wants to come here.

So that is 10 boxes total, which would cost me almost a, roughly, extra $70 a month with DirecTV, Dish, etc, YTTV provided me with the 4K with unlimited, which I turned on when the guests were here, turned off when they left.

Cannot do that with Dish ( unless I buy the boxes which is another expense) or DirecTV, so that saves me a extra, roughly, $840 a year on top of the service.

Yet YTTV price hikes may one day be the death of them.

The problem is that I and many others switched to vMVPDs because they had smaller packages with the more popular channels and fewer of the niche ones. I was happy with 45 channels, 20 of which I watch at $50 compared to 150 channels, 22 of which I watch for $75. I didn’t miss those two channels and they weren’t worth 12.50 each.

As far as the sports thing goes, I pay $1500 to my local MLS team only to get the MLS pass on Apple TV. Oh, I also get the privilege of sitting in the stadium during live games with my wife and son.

I guess I fell down one of those rabbit holes last June and when I emerged, I had saved $100 each month by switching from DTV to YouTube TV aka YTTV. YouTube and YouTube TV are not the same btw.
