Commercials During Pauses

Yesterday our HR44 started showing commercials when a program was paused. They start within about 20 seconds and required a "press any key" to make them go away. One is from "FirstNet - Built with ATT" which is a 5 second looping video with no sound, another is for HBOMax.

Anyone else seeing this and is there any way to permanently get rid of them?

Another thing that coincided with this commercial invasion is that pressing any key on our Directv remotes was occasionally being ignored while watching a recorded program, like "pause". This is lasting 10+ seconds.

Does ATT really want me to switch to Xfinity after 20 years? Because I will.

They've been around for quite a while.

There's a thread on one of the forums about blocking the DIRECTV servers that serve up the ads and there seems to be good success.

Reddit has a thread where someone has constructed a URL blacklist for the ad servers.

After doing a RBReboot about a week ago the commercial messages have disappeared. We hope permanently.

Yesterday we started getting a 10 second "Thank you for your purchase of HGTV ATT Streaming at Channel 1229" frequently even though we neither bought this free service nor bought any of its streaming programs.

had a rep tell me that att didn't care if everyone left DTV. come on they know it's a sinking ship. the csr's don't help no new tech for DTV no added sports channels price hikes every year. they want everyone on there streaming platform. well that's what they were hoping for. but i think they screwed that up also:rolleyes:o_O

I'm curious as to why it matters if there are commercials during pause? It's not as if you want to watch them. Pause allows you to do something else (like a bathroom break or answer a phone call) and then return to the show. Another thing to consider is that these may help to keep rates lower.

Xfinity Flex is a device provided by Xfinity to non TV Xfinity subscribers. And while I have been doing other things it has been paused well over an hour (on a Peacock delivered show). :)

On Xfinity X1 the video will pause for a user set time, 5, 15, 30 minutes or 5 hours and then a screen saver kicks in.
On Tivo you get just the last frame but you get pre-roll ads before your program starts, which is worse then an ad on pause.

What happened 50 years ago in Viet Nam has nothing to do with commercials during pauses on DirecTV, whether or not customers like the commercials or what forum members choose to post about the commercials.

What has happened in the past, what our individual life experiences are, certainly helps form the person we are and the personality we have. That in turn affects how we perceive and interact with our current environment. It is no surprise that each generation perceives the world around them differently than other generations. Each generation needs to understand this, and respect other generations and how they see the world around them. This is not easy, either direction (young understanding old, or old understanding young). But the old do have the advantage of having been young, while the young have yet to experience being old.

I'm long ago retired Army, Nam era vet, and while that certainly has no direct relationship to advertising on various platforms, it can't help but be part of how I perceive the world around me today. And for the record, I hate the DirecTV advertising during pause - but it is easily solved, just disconnect your DirecTV equipment from the internet.

I believe the underlying problem has been discussed in the other thread(s). We are too far off topic here to continue.
