Things I would eliminate all toghether:

How can I be sure I will get an HR20 instead of an HR21? I want all of my local channels!
→ How to get an HR20 instead of HR21 (We have the AM21 and the HR20's are getting pretty old.)

→ HD Channels (with resolution info) ● AVSForum Listing (This just seems like it would always have to be edited.)

I don't have any SDTVs myself, but this one requires special care:

How can I watch my HD DVR on more than one TV? In another room? Record to a DVD Recorder?
Connecting Multiple TVs to the HD DVR+ ● Is HDMI better than Component?

Yup, all of this was made before MRV. Please feel free to come up with some info on that. Keep in mind the whole HDGUI will not output HDUI at the same time as SDUI. Running an HDTV and SDTV at the same time may become very difficult.

We could change that to "How do I get OTA locals through my HDDVR/receiver?" and include AM21 information.

That could be changed from "coming" to "available" and linked to Sixto's thread.

I figured I'd go through that thread one post at a time, and slowly update all of it. I will also update it all based on the HDGUI and current hardware. I know the hd gui isn't out yet, but I don't see the point in creating something that will be out of date in a matter of weeks, and besides by the tie we finish, it probably will be out.. :)

#12 ·
I'd say it will probably be even more relevant after the new tivo hits and people give up wanting the new tivo and finally switch over too the hr.... But that won't take long to update I don't think.

#14 ·
Half the stuff is outdated. My plan is to rework the main post first, then worry about the links that I am skipping right now. I don't think any workarounds are correct anymore.

Do we need any of the following?

What improvements have been made to the HR20 since it's release?
→ Listing of Improvements to the HR20

What bugs are left?
→ Long Term (multiple CE) Bug List

→ DIRECTV Set-Top Box Information (Using Creston or Elan Controllers, etc.)

Is your dish properly installed and grounded?
→ Satellite Dish FAQ

What does DIRECTV have left to do? What features do users want?
→ Missing Promised Features

#17 ·
I think I have most the topics on there somewhere in the first post. I plan on completely reorganizing it. Its all disheveled right now.

I am thinking that the whole thread needs a new title. Maybe

I like the list of improvements list to the HR series.
I would eliminate the Long term bug list (CE) all together.
Set top box info is over my head, that would be up to Stuart and you guys.
gulfwarvet is already working on the FAQ's for dishes, switches and cabling, there could be a note in that about grounding.
Missing/Promised features can go as afa as I'm concerned, that is more of an opinion and could change almost quarterly.

Of course these are my opionions and you all should discuss them too.

I'm going to start another new thread. It will be the rough outline, and we can keep using this for discussion about it all. Ill use the other thread just for creating the page.

I'll add a history page somewhere. :D
ce bug list is gone for sure...
there is no way id do a missing promised features, that's off a manual that doesn't even exist any more. :D

I'm thinking that troubleshooting stuff needs to be separate from setup stuff. You will get an idea when I post the thread on what I am thinking... After I post it, please use this thread to discuss its format and see what should be overall tweaked.

Ok, I have separated things out a bit based on category.

Choosing a system, installing a system, an then trouble shooting the system.

I then broke each of those down to core systems, and advanced systems, i.e. receivers and dishes, vs. accessories such as ick, apps, etc..

Oh and threw in a past and future, and a contact info page. Thoughts???? To much or not enough?

Oh, and yeah, the posts themselves are still all over the map, but the first set of lines is what I have come up with so far as a general outline containing most the things that should be touched on, or linked to , etc.

Here's a breakdown of the posts separating it all out...

Inkahauts, we have to look at some of the tables and see if we should be putting them into the format that Staurt made for us.

I see this being a Sticky thread at the top of the forum with all of our PDF's at the top and then a few posts below that with all of the link that you are checing out. The first post will likely be made by Stuart with the proper links to the PDF's similar to the way the CE Dictionary was done. The more documents we can produce here means less links we can have to the outside.

Thanks for checking out all of the links, I'm sure there were a lot of dead ends.

#23 ·
Yes lots of bad links.

Yeah, I don't like the tables, they aren't really spaced well, but stuff like, that has no need to be a PDF either. I didn't know stuart had tables in his post, ill look latter today. This stuff should be searchable though. Not sure what to do with that. I think anything someone may want a hard copy of should be a PDF, was planning linking them throughout as they are relevant. Figured we should have one post with all of them as well.
