Just installed the Gemini. Very easy setup. Just like the Genie No Native resolutions option. Similar to my AppleTV 4k box. Everything in display info is 4k. Speculation on my part. When switching from 4K apps to TV To avoid Handshake issues and delays they felt locking it in to one resolution was best. HDR is very puzzling. HDR test says TV doesn’t support it. Wrong. Also unlike the Genie there is no HDR programming even listed in the guide. HDR 10? My eyes are not good enough tell if that’s right or not. Dolby Digital + is a bonus.

Still don’t know if this hdr issue is a bug that can be fixed and something they are aware of or if they designed it to be like this. I still have no idea if the box can even do HLG. I’ve tried the YouTubeTV HLG sports broadcasts and it didn’t switch to HLG. So this box seems outdated with no Dolby vision or HLG. A few steps forward but several steps backwards.

Also a new issue I’ve been seeing is the motion being off. A few years ago I saw similar issue with the frame rate for 4k channels but they were able to fix that.

If we could reveal main chip model [SoC] in the Gemini, we will know if it's HW issue of FW, then deduct if it possible to fix or not, regarding HLG support.
C71KW(-200/-400)
DIRECTV STREAM (Before: AT&T TV) - Android TV Guide (androidtv-guide.com)

There are also A21KW-500 DIRECTV STREAM (V2) - Android TV Guide (androidtv-guide.com) and P21KW-500 DIRECTV STREAM Dongle - Android TV Guide (androidtv-guide.com) which are either canceled or otherwise not yet released. They are both newer and both have Dolby Vision logos. As the original DIRECTV Stream device has now been repurposed for DIRECTV Satellite as Gemini, I hope we'll see one or both of these newer boxes also repurposed for DIRECTV Satellite.

Well, sorry guys, but according to this quota from Broadcom brief the SoC:
4Kp60 10-bit video and Multichannel audio through HDMI TX
there is no claim of HLG support in SoC.

Just so no one gets there hopes up over new hardware anytime soon. Just got a replacement Osprey box for Stream as a software push corrupted mine The new box was the classic C71k-400 manufactured on 9/22/22

Well, sorry guys, but according to this quota no HLG support in HW.
Assuming that your quote was relevant to the Gemini, HLG uses 10-bit color (ten bits each for red, green and blue) by definition so being limited to 10-bit color does NOT preclude supporting HLG.

I would assume you have to go far up the DIRECTV technical support chain to get any type of response on this.
I would assume that this level of information is not going to come from Technical Support at all -- at least not authoritatively.

See my edited post#208. As to HDR10 support including HLG parsing... it's real WAG.

Here in my part of the country, we call it a SWAG not a WAG. 😏

On the Gemini. On Demand will not allow any 4k programming tagged with HDR to be downloaded. Error Message. Your TV is not compatible with HDR. Watch on another TV.
Some people advocating poor QA job by the companies - telling us "They cannot have TV of all models on site to check HDMI/HDCP compliance".
Well, there is another way to bring new working FW of Gemini to that condition what would satisfy customers.
Expand FW for download all relevant HDMI/HDCP info during negotiation to flash drive, provide email to send the file and pictures of your TV label, screenshot from TV System info screen (its FW version, etc).
Then do your homework!
Counting how many different models eg HDMI chips designing and using in TV each year with variations of HDMI/HDCP, the feedback must be ongoing process for DTV.
