I tried using YouTubeTV on the Gemini and played a previous NBAtv 4k game which I know had HLG on other devices. It still played in HDR..but no HLG. Also some 4k broadcasts such as fox 4k or NBAtv4k didn’t play in full 4k resolution or give the option to select 4k but it did show hdr. But it give 4k as an option for espn4k. So I’m starting to think this box is not capable of HLG. On top of that, HDR is turned on for everything. The settings menu still says HDR doesn’t work on my tv even though I know it does.

I was really excited about this box but so far there aren’t many benefits. It looks sleeker. The remote is nicer. And voice control is a nice feature but isn’t fully functional yet compared to voice control for YouTubeTV on a google home max.

Not having HLG on directv4k sucks. The number keypad on the remote is hard to use as well. Also the 5 second rewind and 30 second ffwd buttons are harder to use bc there’s no dedicated button for it (it’s just the left or right button now so it doesn’t always work if those directional buttons are needed for something else).

Really odd implementation

My I ask if the program was in HDR10[bit] and your TV doesn't support it ?
What the hell are you talking about? HDR10 is the most basic version of HDR. Any tv that has HDR has hdr10. I already stated my tv has had no issues with hdr with the genie mini I had before or any other 4k hdr device I have. My LG OLED has had no problems with hdr10, hlg, or Dolby Vision. It’s the Gemini.

For 5 years I’ve constantly seen you comment on so many posts, but it’s always useless and not helpful. Or you tell people to search the thread. I really don’t get why you waste your time commenting.

I just go the offer. I live in Northern California. Do we know if the HDR issues that some people are having are with all the new Gemini box’s or just a minority of people reporting a problem?

What does it show if you go to the 4K channel 104 on DirecTV? On my C61K, in the upper right hand corner, I briefly get a label stating "HLG HDR". DO you get any label at all when switching to it?

Scratching my head - HLG is metadata, if the source stream carries it, then it just passing to TV, where is the metadata apply to processing video frames (or discarding if its parsing is not implemented). Usually, pressing Info button on a remote, it will bring such info to TV screen as my Summy UHD does display.

Nope no label at all when switching to 104-106. HDR is activated as soon as you turn on the box so even when the box is loading it’s in a fake hdr mode which is hdr10. You only see it display hdr on the right corner when turning the tv/box on or when you restart the box. So every channel and screen is in a fake hdr but no channel or app/show triggers HDR like it should. And if you go to the Directv settings for HDR, it’ll give you an error telling you that your tv can’t do HDR.

I was trying to originally get all 5 of my c61k’s replaced with a Gemini but they would only let me do one. And I’m glad they didn’t replace all 5 with Gemini. I’ll prob move the Gemini to a tv I don’t use as much and keep a c61k on my main tv.

Especially with the Super Bowl coming up, I want HLG and not this fake hdr that’s on every channel. I also have YouTube tv as a backup so that’s also another option for the Super Bowl. I believe the fox app only does stereo sound.

If I remember correctly the box had forced HDR on DirecTV Stream when it launched and it took awhile but I think they got it fixed. Someone with Stream may remember the details better than I do.

That was an Android TV issue and was fixed awhile ago when Android 10 was released My guess it’s an issue with directv app

On my Sony 65" x930e the HDR is dark using the C61k and channel 104. I have to turn HDR off to make it brighter. My TV didn't come with Dolby Vision and it was added with a software update. Not sure if that makes a difference downloading Dolby Vision or the 4k TV coming with Dolby Vision built in?

Got my Gemini today. Takes a long time to download updates. Activation took a while since the Mac address was wrong on the sticker that came in one box.

It defaults to 3849×2160 HDR on everything unless you connect it to a non 4k device or manually change it to 1080.
Genie remotes don't work except for TV sound etc. Old larger remotes seem to work.
Netflix and Prime video work in 4k HDR.

Genie remotes (small black and white RC7x) should work with Gemini if they are reset to IR mode (DIRECTV codeset 00001). They will not work in RF mode with Gemini.

So if the Old Remotes work then I would think that Harmony remotes also work with the Gemini

In IR mode. Harmony doesn't list the DIRECTV STREAM Device or the DIRECTV Gemini directly.

As for SofaBaton, they just say they support DIRECTV (I'm dubious that this includes the Gemini).

URC claims compatibility with the DIRECTV STREAM Device (and can do so wirelessly) so it seems reasonable that would extend to the Gemini.

I found that I had to reset the remote with Code set 981 then did the 00001 then the specific code for my LG 4K TV 10178. They work for the important things unless the button different like the new Gemini remote. EG: The Enter button is now for Apps not for Input when held long.
