What, exactly, does Sunday Ticket have to do with the PAC-12?

 

Commercial Accounts are significant part of Directv domestic business. They have a huge advantage because of the exclusive Sunday Ticket. When that ends, providers like TimeWarner on the west coast will be able to encroach with aggressive pricing to take a bite out of Directv. Pac-12 missing will give it a modest boost in its marketing.

 

Directv should stop overpaying for the BigTen Network and give the PAC 12. :righton:

Really cable may have some work to do to have NFL ST.

Like makeing it so you can get newer boxes / techs don't swap a new box with an older ones. As NFL ST may need to be MPEG 4 or put in 750 MHz - 1GHZ range.

Or they can do SDV but can the SDV system handle 8-15 HD part time switched feeds be all on at the same time? + maybe other part time feeds RSN feeds? They may need to shut down VOD movies / shows on sundays like how directv turns off alot of the PPV HD channels.

also need to have MLB EI / NHL CI HD on at the same time up 9 feeds now may have more in 2015. As well as the NBA LP / MLS DK HD on at the same time up 9 feeds now may have more in 2015. Also 1-2 PPV HD events feeds as well.

Now if in demand does cable NFL ST they may need trun off MLB EI / NHL CI / NBA LP / MLS DK HD to fit it in.

AS well an SD channels for all feeds as well. Right now in demand needs to have games SD only due to lack of HD slots.

Your right on this account. They need to save all their money for the SEC Network. With all these minor conferences starting their own network, I'd expect an agreement with the SEC Network will occur before any of the minor conferences, and of course, I am biased to the the best football in the country.

Actually, we should want DirecTV to hold their ground and not let the programmers force them into the bundling practices which they (programmers) mandate. Now, if only all cable/sat companies would do this.

I meant renewal of the same deal. The nfl wants exclusivity. Their broadcast partners want it.

As for Dish and Pac 12. Since they have a promotional deal that cannot be given to a second provider, they'd better offer a lower price than Dish had.

This is all just publicity just to get Directv to bite, but they should continue to negotiate a deal for PAC-12 region fans, if Dish can do it why not Directv, This is just Dish ads waiting to happen if there isn't one already.

Sunday ticket represents a lot of strategic thinking from the NFL and Directv. The market has changed dramatically since Sunday Ticket came to fruition. The NFL has to weigh an online subscription program as the next iteration and Directv has to decide if such large financial marketing costs are in line with their strategic vision of the future. The Hulu purchase might just be an indication that Directv is looking to go in a new direction. Only one person can answer the question and he will not do so for professional reasons.

I can see sunday ticket exclusivity for commercial but let cable systems have it for home use and or commercial in areas where they can't get directv.

Maybe even let directv keep doing all the work but let cable systems take the directv feeds.

I can't see cable dedicating all the channels to nfl in competition with MLB, NHL and nba seasons. They can't handle the amount of HD now. Why think they could add nfl?

The nfl will not put up with hit and miss crap that the rest do now with cable.

Just don't see it. Plus they still won't want full distribution because it would harm their contracts with CBS and Fox.

The nfl understand how to maximize money and throwing your product all over the place with little quality control isn't how you do it.

I don't think that's a good argument against pac 12. Pac 12 is not forcing people to buy extra channels the way Disney, FOX, Turner and Universal do.

They wanted same placement as big ten and on directv that is basic all over. Directv wanted sports pack for all or sports pack out of market.
